NIC Chile officially launches the free Legal Assistance and Orientation Program to .CL users, offered through an alliance with legal clinics of national law schools. The aim is to improve the conditions of information and defense for the domain name holders, when facing a conflict scenario by a domain name and arbitral judgment.
Although NIC Chile has a neutral role in these conflicts, we believe it is necessary to offer the holders who opt for this benefit the possibility of being legally advised by independent entities of NIC Chile. To accomplish this we have contacted legal clinics of law faculties, so their students, with the guidance of their professors, can improve the conditions of defense of .CL domain users.
This involves assigning academic value to this legal advisory work, so that the student can acquire the tools to represent his or her sponsor in this online arbitration system, which operates through traditional classroom action.
The program began with a pilot stage, with the participation of:
- Universidad Finis Terrae, Legal Clinic SMEs.
- Universidad Católica del Norte, Legal Clinic.
- Universidad Católica de la Santísima Concepción, Legal Clinic.
These positive results have motivated other countries to replicate this experience. With the pilot phase concluded, this program is now a permanently available service to .CL users who are involved in domain name disputes and that meet the eligibility conditions established by each participating law school.
