NIC Chile will participate in "World Launch IPv6 Day"

NIC Chile announces its participation tomorrow June 6 2012, in the "World Launch IPv6 Day", a campaign led by the Internet Society (ISOC), which will also feature the participation of large Internet content providers like Google, Yahoo, Facebook ; and infrastructure providers and networks such as Akamai, Comcast, among many others.

This campaign is the second part of the successful event last year, "World IPv6 Day" held on June 8, 2011, where for that day and for 24 hours this new protocol was tested in a trial run, taking measurements and preparing a successful transition from the current IPv4 protocol, which is in its final days of depletion.

During last year's World IPv6 Day, NIC Chile activated its web (www.nic.cl), whois (whois.nic.cl) and national name servers (DNS) for IPv6. Measurements and monitoring were so successful that it was decided to leave IPv6 active permanently. Also during this past year new services have been added gradually, coming to have a full IPc6 anycast cloud for DNS, email services, and most importantly for our users, the free name secondary server "secundario.nic.cl", thus enabling more than 45,000 domain names to be automatically accessible at the DNS level over IPv6.

Alongside this, through "NIC Chile Labs" will participate in the seminar organized by the group "IPv6 for Chile", the same day on June 6 in Santiago. More information and registration at http://www.ipv6.cl/seminarios/world-ipv6-launch (in spanish).

NIC Chile has been preparing for over 5 years for IPv6, organizing and participating in seminars and talks, activating its own IPv6 connection, participating in Google testbeds, and ultimately leading through NIC Chile Labs the IPv6 Working Group Chile that seeks to make an orderly transition in conjunction with internet service providers (ISP) and the Government. Thus, we have reached the point of using IPv6 as one more basic service, equivalent to IPv4, in all our services, machines and networks.

NIC Chile thus continues to support the development and migration to the new protocol, critical to the continued growth of the Internet as a platform for innovation and economic development.
